On the last day of my Kansas hunt the temperature had climbed to the mid 60's but at least the wind had let up some. I decided to hunt a stand that I had not hunted before. This stand was situated in a small wood lot that was surrounded by fields. To my left was a hay field, to my right was a sunflower and alfalfa field and in front of me was a wheat field.

If a man is lucky, he will celebrate
many birthdays before his days on this earth are done. Some
birthdays mean little more than just another day on the
calendar, but some are special and are remembered as such.

An
Early Christmas

I had time to make one more
whitetail hunt with Christmas still being a week away.
The kids got out of school early Friday and we were
packed and ready to go when Donna arrived home.
Five hours later we were pulling into our deer lease in
McCullough County. After
a quick set up I was finally able to get to sleep.

First Buck of the
Year
|

The
2008 Texas whitetail season was underway and I could not get
the thoughts of scoring on a good buck early out of my head.
I had several unsuccessful hunts under my belt for the
2008 season and I was starting to think this year would be
like every other year where I do not get a shot opportunity
until late in the season.

Morgan's
Turkey |

With the arrival of
the general whitetail season here in Texas came a lot of
excitement around my house. It
was finally time to take my youngest daughter, Morgan, hunting.
You see Morgan hunts with a crossbow and they are not legal
to hunt with during the archery only season............ |
