Morgan's Turkey

Morgan Turkey.png (455486 bytes)

With the arrival of the general whitetail season here in Texas came a lot of excitement around my house.  It was finally time to take my youngest daughter, Morgan, hunting.  You see Morgan hunts with a crossbow and they are not legal to hunt with during the archery only season............

I commented to my hunting partner before season opened that it might be our best season in years for antlers and maybe the worst for hunting.

Off to a Good Start

With a full moon in the night’s sky and the mercury on the thermometer pushing 85 degrees, it was time to try to get some sleep before opening day arrived for the Texas 2007 archery whitetail season.

B&C Outfitters Has it ALL

I always love it when I get a call from James Ferguson and the conversation starts out like this – “Mark such and such date on your calendar. We’re going hunting at the so and so ranch.”  The next thing I do is clear off my calendar.

Three Little Pigs

On Saturday the Bowhunting North America Team made their way to the Circle T Ranch in Commerce, Texas for some hog hunting.  I was asked a few weeks earlier to go along as John Shelley’s cameraman and didn’t hesitate to say yes.

Bowhunting The Circle T Ranch

Our trip to the Circle T Ranch started a few months back.  We traveled to the Circle T Ranch in Commerce, TX to chase wild hogs.  The weather was not perfect for our hunt but we did see lots of animals.

Leaky Skies and Leakey Axis

The buck was facing me but I brought the Mathews Drenalin to full draw knowing that if he turned to offer me a shot I would have only seconds to pull the trigger. As I drew the bow I shifted my weight and my stool make a slight creaking noise. This was all the buck needed to come to full alert! He lifted his head and whirled to leave but made the biggest mistake of his life when he stopped to look back one more time.

Father & Son Hog

Jerry & Son w-Pig 500.jpg (54284 bytes) James and I have been scouting this land near Athens, Texas, for a few months and recently came across an area we felt would be excellent for hog hunting.  I went out about two weeks before this hunt and put up a couple of stands.  This is the first time I've put up a hang on stand and it was interesting to say the least.

The Triple Tom

Opening day of deer season always finds me sitting in a stand or blind with the feeling that I love bowhunting for big whitetail bucks better than anything on earth. I usually keep that same feeling right up until opening day of spring turkey season!

Fresh Bacon

The weekend before spring break we decided to do a little hog hunting.  Saturday afternoon the family and I were situated in a ground blind over looking a trail that the hogs used to traverse from a slew to the top of the hill.

New Year - New Friends - New Mexico

New Year’s Day 2007 dawned cold and clear in the desert of southeastern New Mexico for me and James Ferguson of Bowhunting North America, LLC. We were there for 5 days of hunting for the big New Mexico Desert mule deer.

What Makes a Trophy

After hunting and running the camera for a total of 8 straight days I was pretty worn down and ready to go home.  When the alarm went off on the morning of the 9th day it was hard to crawl out of bed.
