Bowhunting North America's Weekly Tip, Week 2 Turkey Hunting - Stay All Day |
||
|
In last week’s tip James mentioned the use of a good pop up blind for hunting spring gobblers. Hunting turkey with a bow is a whole ‘nuther thing than hunting them with a shotgun and the ground blind makes a near impossible task seem almost easy. Get one and use it. I’d like to add that if you don’t tag out early in the day, stay with it! Often times a gobbler with get with hens immediately after flying down and it can be very difficult to call him off the real thing. But during the breeding season the Toms will breed all day long and once he’s finished with the hens he flew down with, he’s off looking for love in new places.

Take snacks, drinks, and whatever else you need to stay all day. Mid-day hunting can be some of the best for big spring gobblers.

I will often pop up my Double Bull in a good area and sit in that spot all day long if that’s what it takes. I take a small ice chest in with snacks and drinks and a good comfortable chair and set up camp for the day. A good book or small transistor radio can help pass the time while waiting for your bird.
Turkey season is short, so make the best of it and stay in that blind til you get your bird. After all, sitting in the woods all day looking and listening to Mother Nature sure beats going home early and mowing the yard! And this is your Bowhunting North America Tip of the Week!
